    If you're wondering what to do in Rhodes, you should know that it's a city marked by Greek mythology and in every corner there are myths and legends, traces of the past and the history that the city has lived through.

    In terms of mythology, one of the many internationally famous things to see in Rhodes is the Colossus. It was a large statue of the Greek god Helios, created by sculptor Chares of Lindos in 292 BC and was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 AD. It's considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and really should be at the top of the list of stuff to do in Rhodes. Today, there are plans to rebuild this massive statue.
    What is known of this statue is due to the history left behind by the ancient writers. Legend has it that it was located in the port of Rhodes, now known as Mandraki.

    The city is protected by several walls, which were built by the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem. It's one of the many places to visit in Rhodes on foot. The walls measure 12 meters thick and are fortified with three towers and 11 gates, the highlight of which is the sea gate opposite the port. It's flanked by two towers and decorated with fleur de lis.

    Another of the important attractions in Rhodes is Hippocrates Square, close to Socrates, Pythagoras, and Aristotle streets. It's decorated with a Turkish fountain and in one corner is the silk exchange, which dates from the 16th century and is now the public library.
