All about Plymouth tourism

Plymouth is a scenic port town on the south west coast of England’s Devon country. Historically, it has been a major center for shipping and the Royal Navy, and its friendly maritime character will be apparent during your holiday in Plymouth. Your easiest bet for getting to Plymouth is to catch a train from London (or other British cities) to Plymouth Station. Regular ferry routes also let visitors travel to Plymouth from the coast of Brittany in France and Santander in northern Spain. Getting around the city is relatively quick and simple thanks to an efficient bus network.

Most visitors begin their Plymouth holiday with a stroll through the Barbican, the historic port area that managed to survive devastation in WWII. This area is home to the National Marine Aquarium, the largest in the United Kingdom, as well as historic buildings and notable landmarks like the Mayflower Steps, the very sight where the pilgrims first set sail for the New World. It’s also a lively place at night for a dinner and drinks and the top-notch plays and musicals at the Theatre Royal are only a short walk away.

You also can’t miss a trip to Plymouth Hoe to see the historic Royal Citadel and the unparalleled views of Plymouth Sound and Mount Batten. If you’re looking for a more contemporary side of Plymouth tourism, you should pay a visit to the Plymouth Pavilions, an all-inclusive entertainment center with music venues, sports facilities, and most popular of all, and ice rink.

History, culture, and seaside fun are the order of the day in Plymouth, so let’s start thinking about that Plymouth vacation!
