All about Bordeaux tourism

Bordeaux is a lovely city on the banks of Garonne River near the Atlantic coast of Southern France. For years, Bordeaux tourism has been defined by it’s excellent wines and historic city center, a complex of excellently-preserved 18th-century buildings that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During your Bordeaux holidays, you’ll want to spend some of your trip exploring the charming architecture and quaint bistros of the city before heading out to visit Bordeaux’s wine regions.

Your first stop should be the historic center, home to impressive sights like the Church of the Holy Cross, the Bordeaux Cathedral, and the stunning Basilica of St. Michael, the latter of which constitutes one of the most stunning stops on the French leg of the Camino de Santiago. Bordeux travel is also a great opportunity to enjoy some of Europe’s best artworks at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux, a fine art museum housing works by Picasso, van Dyck, Renoir, and Matisse.

Despite the wealth of things to see, your holidays in Bordeaux can also be relaxing and fun for the entire family. Stroll down to the Place de la Bourse and cool off in the refreshing water mirror, a summertime favorite of both tourists and local families. Or, head down to Rue Sainte-Catherine and enjoy an afternoon perusing shops, enjoying charming cafes, and picking up a souvenir of your Bordeaux holiday.

If you fly in to Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport, you can find quick rail access to the city center or other trains to travel to Bordeaux’s wine growing regions where you can explore the historic vineyard along the famous right and left banks. History, culture, family fun, and great wines, that’s what a Bordeaux vacation is all about!
