Rose Manzanita
A friendly hostel
One interesting point about this friendly hostel is that you have the possibility of getting a special price for long stays (over 8 weeks), which makes it recommended if you're travelling on a Working Holiday Visa. The rooms are well-furnished, with a wardrobe, desk, drawers, mini fridge and heating. The reception provides you with bed linen, and if you're staying for a long time, you'll have the option to change them once a week. All rooms are fitted with sprinklers and smoke detectors.
In addition, each person will be given a basket containing the bare essentials for eating (knife and fork, pots of various sizes, glass, cup, etc) - of course, you will need to pay a deposit, promising to return everything.
The deluxe rooms are in the new wing on the 6th floor, which has a great view of Auckland. This floor has its own kitchen and bathroom, and the rooms are larger, with new furniture. Another peculiarity lies in the fact that two floors of this hostel are women-only. I got to stay there for more than 4 months and I really enjoyed it. It takes a bit of getting used to, especially if you've never lived in this sort of environment before.
