Irukina
Yakushima Forest
Yakushima is an island located south of Kyushuu (one of the four main islands of Japan). To get there you have to go by boat from the port of Kagoshima (on the same island of Kyushuu). It is a tropical island where it rains more generous nature than 300 days per year resulting in lush vegetation. The main attraction are its forests of Yakushima, and especially, an area where a tree is ancient (prehistoric) securing has more than 7000 years. You have the option of many different tours, but the one that you really shouldn't miss is that of the yayoi tree (that's the name of that tree thousands of years) which lasts over 14 hours.
A shorter route (although actually about 8 hours in total) is one that allows you to visit a cedar forest of about 300 years. What best defines the forest is "story", it is full of twists and turns, impossible shapes trees, roots thousands of feet vast and much moss. You can take a bus from the village to some of the paths, so that makes it pretty easy. I stayed in the village, in fact. Keep in mind that it is Very important is to wear good hiking shoes and rain gear because not only rain but there is always a constant humidity and areas without the sun. So everything is covered in a soft (and wet) moss and rocks are slippery. Also, there are some bears.
