Whithorn Priory
One of those places that still retain ancestral spiritual since the time of its foundation. Saint Ninian, a Celtic saint, came to this area from the north of the country and formerly from Ireland. For reasons not clear, although one could speak of a religious vision, the saint chose this place to establish the first Catholic Church Christian country in the late fourth century. At first it was made of wood but in the 12th century it became a stone abbey in the twelfth century thanks to King David I the Lord of Galloway, Fergus. It continued to be run governed by Premonstratensian monks until it was abandoned with the advent of the Reformation of the sixteenth century.
