Yola
World Heritage Site
The White Desert of Egypt is a National Park World Heritage Site. It's more or less halfway between Cairo and the Bahariya oasis. It's also the first or last stop on the trip to or from Bawiti (better to come from Bawiti). The main characteristic of this desert is the presence of limestone, that covers and mizes with the fine sand, but also features as limestone rocks (purely white), which the wind has sculpted in various shapes. The most famous are the "mushrooms", but some of the 'stems' have collapsed under the weight of the top of the mushrooms. People usually night camp in the desert, camping in the open.
