First international peace park

The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park is the name given to the union of the Glacier National Park in the United States and the Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada, both parks have been declared UNESCO World Heritage sites. This union is the first international peace park in the world and is a symbol of friendship between the two neighboring countries. The park is in Montana in the US and in Alberta and British Columbia in Canada. The peace park consists of two mountains, 130 lakes and hundreds of plant and animal species. You can explore a good part of the park on the famous Going-to-the-sun, a road which runs through it, there are beautiful views of both the Lewis and Livingston mountain ranges, as well as forests, waterfalls and lakes.

Some of the activities you can do in the park are hiking, camping, fishing and in winter alpine skiing in certain areas. Hiking is the most popular, since there are a lot of trails, some areas where you can hike are, Lake McDonald, Logan Pass, Many Glacier, Lake St. May, Two Medicine, the Flathead River and Goat Haunt. Another way to explore the park is to take one of the conducted bus tours. If you want to camp in the park visitor centers exist where you can buy a permit, the only restriction to the campsite is about dates permitted, as it is often closed until early June, due to the risk of avalanches, so the ideal dates for camping are between June and September.

Best Day of My Life!

In the photo, the view is north from the top of Mount Wilbur that shows the magnificence of the continental divide on a crystal clear day that I took in 1976 after a spectacular climb.
