Oldest temple in Chiang Mai

Wat Chiang Man is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai and dates from the 13th century. For a time, it was the residence of King Mengrai, the founder of the city, ve lived here during the city's construction. It has been restored several times during its history and the décor has a distinct Burmese influence. It's notable for the row of stone elephants. Inside, there are two famous images of Buddha, one in marble and the other in crystal. It's located in the old city so it's easy to find.

golden dragons

Dragones dorados

Chiang Mai is a city in northern Thailand impressive. In addition the youth and cultural environment that abounds in the city, surrounded by mountains and beautiful landscapes, one of the most striking things about the place is its spirituality. Chiang Mai is full of Buddhist temples where thousands of monks perform their meditations and spiritual progress. The wat (temple) chiang man is a good example of all the temples that are in the small but busy town. As in almost all the temples, I is ornate golden Buddha figures and in this case also, two huge golden dragons that give entrance to the temple. Almost all the temples of Chiang Mai cost a few baht to enter, but well worth it to see the art and move a little more to the entire Buddhist environment.

The old city of Chiang Mai, located...

The old city of Chiang Mai, located within the walled and moated still present, has more than 300 Buddhist temples! Although it is unlikely that you will visit them all, we recommend a visit (free) Wat Chiang Man in downtown Chiang Mai. We particularly liked the laughing dragon and snake with 7 heads that frames the entrance to the temple, itself decorated with gold and jewels sparkling with a magnificent painted roof tiles.

More relaxed and quiet than the other temples

Wat Chiang Man, not being in the center and next to the other well-known temples, enjoys more tranquility and peace. It emphasizes its pagoda of golden dome supported by elephant sculptures, and also a small temple in the middle of an artificial pond. One of the essentials to visit in Chiang Mai, for its beauty and tranquility.
