Walvis Bay

Tras visitar el desierto del Namib y cruzar las montañas del Naukluft en Namibia, nos dirigimos a la costa a la ciudad de Swakopmund, la ciudad costera mas importante del pais. A unos pocos kilometros se encuentra Walbis Bay que está considerado el puerto mas importante del país. Desde aquí se pueden contratar excursiones en las que visitar la bahía donde hay abundante fauna marina (delfines, leones marinos, pelícanos...). Uno piensa en Africa y automaticamente le vienen a la mente los grandes mamíferos terrestres, las aves,... La fauna marina es algo que me sorprendió gratamente pues aparte de los leones marinos y los delfines, en Hermanus, cerca de Ciudad del Cabo pude observar las ballenas saltando en su bahía mientras se aparean en los meses de nuestro verano. Os dejo esta instantanea de un grupo de pelícanos volando en formación cual patrulla acrobática en la bahia de Walvis. De fondo podréis observar la tormenta de arena que ese día cubría la zona.

After visiting the Namib Desert and the Naukluft mountain crossing in Namibia, we headed to the coast to the city of Swakopmund, the most important coastal city in the country. A few km is Walbis Bay which is considered the most important port of the country. From here you can hire tours that visit the bay where there is abundant marine life (dolphins, sea lions, pelicans ...). One thinks of Africa and will automatically come to mind large terrestrial mammals, birds, ... The marine life is something that I was pleasantly surprised because apart from the sea lions and dolphins, in Hermanus, near Cape Town could see the whales jumping in the bay while mating in our summer months. Hace unos días conocimos al propietario de cuatro quads y un DuneBuggie que se ofreció a meternos con sus bestias en el desierto, que atraviesa la zona de Walvis Bay en la provincia de Erongo. Dicen que son las más altas del mundo y no me extraña. En este viaje subimos a dunas cuya altura cortaría la respiración de mas de uno, con un vehículo tan potente, que su rugido provocaba corrimientos de arena a nuestro alrededor. Una experiencia única que solo puedes vivir en un ligar tan mágico como este... El desierto mas antiguo del mundo, el Namib.
