Waipara Sleepers
Waipara is situated 60 km north of Christchurch, at the junction of Highways 1 and 7 in the North Canterbury region on the South Island of New Zealand. The Waipara region is known for its wine production and also for a charming area called "Waipara Sleepers" (Waipara dorms). The bedrooms are old train cars, the first three of which arrived in 1990 becoming the pride of Waipara after leaving the tracks of the main line. Currently there are twelve cars. But these are not any cars, they weigh 15 tons each and are the old mail coaches that were located at the end of each train. The interiors have been changed as little as possible to make way for certain amenities while retaining the atmosphere of the old trains.
