Citadel 700 meters above sea level
The Citadel of Bragança and Vila is on the top of a hill over 700 meters above sea level, which has a view of the entire city. Its origins date back to the time of the founding of the city in1187 by Sancho I. It is a walled city with 15 towers and many gates in the heart of which stands the Castle, which now houses the Military Museum. In front of Castle include the Church of St. Mary, Pelourinho and Municipalis Domus (also a National Monument). The citadel is a small set of steep, cobbled streets, where, in addition to these historic buildings are buildings of 1 or 2 stories, where people live.
In one of these buildings is installed Iberian Museu da and Costume Mask, an interesting museum dedicated to the celebration and carnival costumes typical of the region of Tras-Os-Montes. The whole environment of the citadel is surrounded by beautiful gardens.
