Antigamente essa vila era apenas um povoado de pescadores que viviam nos arredores da Barra do Rio Sahy. O acesso era muito difícil,somente os aventureiros chegavam no local por trilhas abertas na mata. Com o passar dos anos, a Rodovia Rio-Santos foi concluída e asfaltada, abrindo assim enormes possibilidades para o desenvolvimento econômico e turístico, em todo o litoral norte. Bem como em todo o litoral, com o povoado da Barra do Sahy não foi diferente, muitas casas de veraneio foram construídas trazendo mais estrutura para o local, que se tornou uma vila. Hoje em dia a vila é um lugar tranquilo para se viver, os moradores contam com uma escola, atendimento médico e linhas de ônibus para São Sebastião e região. A vila da Barra do Sahy é muito conhecida por turistas que buscam sossego em meio a natureza preservada. A vila é o principal ponto de partida para a Praia da Barra,e das belezas que a cercam.
