View of two rivers

Excellent

A marked trail takes you on a 3-kilometer hike to the Viewpoint of La Carrasquera, one of the most beautiful points within the Tajo International Natural park. Its elevation lets you see both the Pónsul and Tajo rivers.

The area surrounding the viewpoint features a flawless “V” shape of the rivers whose waters range from emerald green to deep, intense blue and silver-grey. The viewpoint also has a picnic area where you can get something to eat and, if you’re lucky, they’ll treat you to a regional fish stew, as happened in our case.

I’d suggest getting there on foot since the path from Cedillo is well-marked and well-beaten and it passes by interesting archaeological sites like the Pila de Los Ladrones, an anthropomorphic tomb dating back to the 9th century. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy yourself while looking out over the Tajo and Pónsul, to relax and disconnect from the world, and to enjoy the silence of the Extremeño wilderness.

Balcony of the Tajo

Excellent

This viewpoint offers some of the best views of the Tajo River and its tributaries. The river is the natural boundary between Spain and Portugal, which can be seen on the river’s northern shore. At the viewpoint, there’s a picnic area and information panels about local species. You can get there by following a 3-kilometer trail that begins in the town of Cedillo. You can do the trail on a 4-wheel drive vehicle or on foot. It’s a great place to get a birds-eye-view of the river.
