Viewpoint of Pont Gisclard or Cassagne
While touring the spectacular road RN 116 that winds around the Narural Reserve of the Catalan Pyrenees, an interesting monument caught my attention. There are parking spaces along the entire road where you can stop and enjoy the magnificent views of the Pyrenean landscape. At one of these viewpoints is the memorial created to remember the accident that occurred when performing the tests of the new bridge built for the train that ran almost 200 meters above the River Tet. Among others, the engineer who designed the bridge died in this accident: Albert Gisclard. When we parked the car and started to climb towards the curious monument, the views of Pont Gisclard below were amazing, we were almost hanging from the foliage of the trees.
