Victorian Square

This square is a beautiful Victorian building complex. It has been restored and adapted to modern times, but I have visited it at various times, and each time found it desolate. Many of the places in the square were empty and those that weren't empty were not inviting to come in. Perhaps in order to highlight the local university, there were some fun souvenir shops. Besides shopping, there are a couple of bars in the streets serving fast food and an Italian restaurant decorated with beautiful murals. There was an area of access to offices that was a bit busier, but still very empty for me to understand this strategic mall center in the historic center.

I know one of the great challenges of managing Lexington - La Fayette is to recover the historical center, to give more life though is a difficult thing in many American cities that manage a larger urban scale, where the private car is the main mode of transport; its not like in Europe where there are many pedestrian zones. Hopefully soon, during the right season, I can see Lexington street life, because its architecture deserves to be the setting for a daily life.
