Verraco

Cuando llegas a esta localidad salmantina, justo en la entrada del pueblo te recibe esta escultura zoomorfa, que recibe el nombre de verraco. Podría tratarse de un tipo de toro, realizado en granito, data del siglo IV antes de Cristo pero se encuentra bastante erosionada y mal conservada. No se distinguen rasgos faciales, aunque se supone que en sus inicios sí los tendría. En cuanto a estas esculturas, hay distintas teorías respecto a su significado, unos piensan que delimitaban los terrenos dedicados al pastoreo, otros que tenían significado religioso, más bien de culto a los muertos ya que en algunos casos se han encontrado algunas inscripciones funerarias.

When you get to this Salamanca, right location at the entrance of the village you get this zoomorphic sculpture, called boar. It could be a type of bull, made of granite, dating from the fourth century BC but it is quite weathered and poorly preserved. No facial features are distinguished, although it is assumed that initially the other would. Looking at these sculptures, there are different theories as to its meaning, some think that marked land devoted to grazing, others who had religious significance rather worship the dead and in some cases found some funerary inscriptions.
