Worth a visit
Praia Vermelha is one of those Rio de Janeiro beaches, rather overshadowed by the more popular Copacabana and Ipanema. Its charm lies in the views of the hills of Urca and the Sugarloaf. It's located near the entrance of the cable car that will take you up the Sugarloaf. Many tourits are unaware of this small beach, named for its reddish colour at sunset, which comes from the pulverized rock crystals in the sand.
