Lions Square

La Piazza più vivace e frequentata di Heraklion è senza dubbio Platia Venizelou, punto d’incontro della vita notturna cittadina nonché fulcro di partenza turistico per la visita del capoluogo. La piazza è invasa dai numerosi tavolini dei cafè e dei ristoranti turistici, con i grandi menu esposti ed i camerieri che invitano i passanti ad accomodarsi. Il centro di Venizelou è dominato dalla bella Fontana Morosini, edificata durante il periodo veneziano, con le eleganti decorazioni tra cui spiccano i quattro leoni dalla cui bocca zampilla l’acqua. La pedonale via Dedhalou collega la piazza al resto della città, una piacevole passeggiata tra eleganti negozi e piacevoli taverne.

The most bustling and very busy square of Heraklion is undoubtedly Platia Venizelou, meeting point of the city's nightlife and tourist hub of departure for the visit of the capital. The square is invaded by numerous tables of cafes and tourist restaurants with large menus displayed and the waiters that invite passers-by to sit down. The center is dominated by the beautiful Venizelou Morosini Fountain, built during the Venetian period, with the elegant decorations, among which the four lions from whose mouth pours water. The pedestrian street Dedhalou connects the square to the rest of the city, a pleasant stroll among elegant shops and pleasant tavernas.
