The most famous face of the Paseo del Prado
This is one of the most famous faces of Madrid (of the Spanish painter Velázquez), and it is located in an essential Madrid site, the Prado Museum: one of the most important museums in the world whos collection contains works from artists like Velázquez, El Greco, Goya, Tiziano, El Bosco, Murillo, Ribera, Rubens, Zurbarán, Rafael, Veronese, Tintoretto or Van Dyck.
The statue was created by Aniceto Marinas. If you take a closer look, you'll see a dedication in its pedestal that says: 'Spanish artists, a Círculo de Bellas Artes initiative, 1899". It was unveiled back on June 14th, 1899 by King Alfonso XIII and the regent queen at the time.
