Out of the gloom a lake emerges

I had pulled into the parking lot late at night, camped in the back of the truck, and woke up to swirling snow and low clouds. A truck with two Swiss pulled up, and they started up the canyon before me. I soon caught up and we took turns breaking trail. The lower part of the canyon looked nasty but soon we were cruising through deep snow. Suddenly the color drained away to white and it took a moment to realize we had reached the upper lake and treeline. Through breaks in the clouds I could see the glacier spilling off Mt. Matier, big and exposed. Mt Taylor stood to the west, impressive but do-able, and I headed toward it, but once properly above treeline the storm began to rage and I got caught up trying to navigate a weirdly huge terminal moraine.

The Swiss guys caught up to me and tried a go at it as well but turned back. I made two runs in loose trees then headed back to the truck, made coffee, and read, while the storm blew on.
