Very nice for a picnic
This park, north of Oxford, is easily accessible by foot from the center and it was developed and managed by the University of Oxford since its purchase in 1853. When we visited there was too much rain and snow and it probably was not the best season, many roads were closed as there was too much water. The river and several small streams had turned into a lake, it was awesome! You can take pets to the park but you can't ride a bike and there are sports fields in the center that host competitions for colleges/college sports clubs. Part of the park was first used as for leisure in the seventeenth century and the rest of the land was purchased in 1865 with several changes to reach its current configuration.
The parks are open to everyone, every day of the year and there is a large collection of plants, including the genetic garden. In the center is a Cricket field and Cherwell River islands are usually very nice for a picnic.
