Jungle Trek to ruins
The city of Dos Pilas had its moment of glory in the Ancient Maya, rival of Tikal they shared their emblem. Today to reach the city you must hire a guide, otherwise it is impossible to find it located so deep in the jungle. Ideally, go in the dry season. During the rainy season ( the season we visited) access is difficult, be prepared to walk for hours through mud and be devoured by mosquitoes. The site isn't very explored, the hieroglyphic stairs were found just a few years ago, the only ones in the area and some of their trails. The important thing is the way to go. Depending on site conditions it will take between about 4 or 5 day each way. The place is named for two natural water sources.
