It is a medieval Italian-style building in the South Wing, which dates from the time when William Marcy was ruler of Tammany Hall. It cost about $ 12 million and it took about 20 years to build. It was finished in 1872, when Tweed was removed from office. Today it serves as the headquarters of the Department of Education of New York and has also been used as a filmset for several movies.
