Trás-os-Montes E Alto Douro University (UTAD)

Vila Real is an important cultural center in northern Portugal, following the creation in 1986 of the university (or UTAD Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro). It has a large university campus on the outskirts of the city and other downtown buildings, teching over 40 types of science degrees (diplomas), upper (undergraduate) and postgraduate, doctoral, masters, etc. It also participates in the Erasmus scholarships and student exchange programs. About 6,000 students study here. Some of the subjects that can be studied are: Veterinary studies, physical education, geology, biological engineering, chemistry, mathematics, education, economics, engineering and psychology .
