2 reviews of Primate's Palace

Mayors and Archbishops

Excellent

The seat of city government is a complex of several buildings of different styles and periods. The core of the town hall was built in the first half of the fifteenth century, and since 1868 has housed the City Museum, with an interesting exhibition about medieval feudal justice. In front of the building is a well, providing water to the inhabitants of the city centre. On one side of the square is the Primate's Palace, former residence of the Archbishop of Estrergom, with its famous collection of tapestries and the Hall of Mirrors. It also hosted the signing of the peace treaty between France and Austria in 1805.

The allegorical statues located along the roof line represent the cardinal's human qualities and achievements. The building is adorned at its peak by a model of his hat, made of iron, and weighing 150 kg.
