Dónde vamos Eva
A glorious past
Although its private and doesn't allow visitors, it's worth heading to the North of Barcelona to take a look at another of Gaudi's relatively unknown works.
Just seeing the Bellesguard tower, also known as Casa Figueras, is worth the walk to the outskirts of Collserolla ;-) Gaudi carried out an interesting work where there was once an ancient medieval palace where a blue tile cross sticks out from the tower. It was created using the colors of the Catalan flag in honor of the areas regalness. The tower raises up from Martí l'Humà's (the last king of Aragon) castle, which he adopted as his summer residence in 1410.
Just next door you'll notice a small and unexpected aqueduct that has a commemorative plaque signaling its authorship. The viaduct is very similar to the passage of Guell Park.
After enjoying this enigmatic place, I've decided to explore the area and, after turning down Bellesguard street, I discover some of the most beautiful sites in all of Barcelona. Obviously, we translate the names from Catalan, but its means "Beautiful views," so it's got to have that name for a reason, right? ;-) Close by you'll find a series of very interesting buildings like the Pias School or the CEU University headquarters.
You can get here by bus. Line 123 basically leaves you right in front. You can also walk here (which I recommend to the more valiant travelers because of the elevated terrain). It's also accessible by car.
Prepare to discover a house that seems like it's been taken right out of a fairytale. It always reminds me of the chocolate house in Hansel and Gretell. What will it remind you of?
