Tiran Island

One of the classic excursions departing from Sharm el Sheikh. A short boat trip will take you to a wonderful reef where you can put on your wetsuit and go diving. There are plenty of dive sites in the area, where you can admire the varied aquatic fauna. The Straits of Tiran - a rocky island on which there are military installations - are 15km away. There has long been talk of building a bridge linking Egypt with the Arab Peninsula, but the Egyptian government has resisted for fears of disfiguring this wonderful place, already threatened by the uncontrolled development of tourism in the area .
