Tortora (CS)

Sono i primi giorni estivi, e i bambini che si rincorrono appresso alla palla e girano con la biciclettina attorno alla piccola fontana al centro della Piazza Plebiscito sotto lo sguardo materno della Chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo nel centro storico di Tortora, tutto il giorno, con la sola pausa dei pasti, come nei tempi andati, e la giovane donna rientrata a casa, canta e fischietta svolgendo le faccende. Lo scenario in cui si svolge questa realtà d'altri tempi è Tortora, paese della Calabria cosentina, a cavallo tra la costa tirrenica e il Pollino. Abbarbicato ad una rupe calcarea a strapiombo che ne fa una balconata con vista sul mare del golfo di Palinuro, al confine con la Basilicata. Sceso nella stazione di Praja a Mare, seguendo il vecchio tracciato della Statale 18, dopo aver attraversato il centro di Praja ed essere passato per il Lido di Tortora, volgo a destra e prendo la via Blanda; continuando passo tra nuove e vecchie costruzioni un po' disordinate. Devio a destra in una strada che comincia a salire con curve talora a gomito, e finita la zona urbanizzata la strada continua a salire, di curva in curva con belle vedute continue sul Pollino, risalendo la Fiumarella; dopo aver raggiunto il cimitero ancora poche curve e dopo km 8,6, dietro l'ultima curva, in basso a destra, si apre lo spettacolare grumo di case di Tortora, abbarbicato suuno sperone di roccia e sullo sfondo le cime arrotondate del Pollino. Il paese con case giustapposte come per reggersi l'una all'altra, strette strette per non scivolare giù dalla rupe, con l'immancabile campanile che sbuca tra i tetti al centro del paese. Nella parte alta detta Iulita, si trovano la chiesa e il chiostro quattrocentesco del convento dei Francescani (la chiesa è attualmente chiusa al pubblico). Nella parte bassa dell'abitato, quella sulla rupe, detta Carrola, sorge la parrocchiale di S. Pietro apostolo; in un ambiente attiguo tre pergamene con bolli, di cui una datata 1578; la fronte di un sarcofago marmoreo di arte paleocristiana; colonne e resti marmorei probabilmente provenienti dall’area archeologica di Blanda e oreficerie sacre del secolo XVII. Sempre nella parte bassa, all'interno della cittadella del centro storico, al fondo del corso Garibaldi in pizzo alla rupe, si trova palazzo Lomonaco col bel portale settecentesco. Lungo le stradine, gli ingressi delle abitazioni del centro storico di Tortora sono abbelliti da pregevoli portali litici, che ornano gli antichi palazzi. Il portale litico nella sua semplice austerità è un elemento di pregio così come l’abside e il campanile. Il centro storico è costituito di un primo nucleo al quale si accede passando sotto una porta ad arco; dopo un breve tratto di strada carrabile dalla carreggiata così stretta che impone il passo d'uomo nel rischio d'incrociare un'altra auto in senso inverso che costringe a brusca frenata con relativa manovra, si svolta a destra e si prende la via intitolata a Garibaldi che in leggera discesa si rastrema sempre più, fino a raggiungere un piccolo slargo denominato Piazza Dante Alighieri, appena fuori la porta di accesso alla cittadella del centro storico dove è posta la chiesetta del Purgatorio dal notevole portale - rozzo lavoro romanico, con riflessi moreschi e bizantini -. Da qui, una breve salitella porta al gran muraglione grigio del Palazzo feudale Casapesenna, turrito, sede del Museo Archeologico di Tortora, che chiude a difendere il secondo nucleo del centro storico al quale si accede attraverso la porta d'ingresso dall'alto fornice. Qui comincia un'area molto pittoresca che conserva antichi edifici; dato il reticolo di strade strette, è obbligatoriamente pedonalizzata, il che offre un silenzio irreale, rotto solo dalle grida giocose dei bambini e dai rintocchi delle campane del campaniletto della Chiesa di San Pietro, che battono i quarti le mezze e le ore. Il corso principale intitolato a Garibaldi, lungo il percorso è segnato da stazioni con targhe che ricordano il passaggio dell'"eroe per un sogno" il 3 settembre del 1860 ospite della famiglia Lo Monaco di Ajeta, durante la conquista del meridione d'Italia. Nelle poche centinaia di metri del percorso di poco più di due metri di larghezza, tra la porta e il Palazzo Lomonaco, camminando nel silenzio ovattato, nell'unico incontro di solo qualche gatto, sembra di vivere nell'attesa dell'apparizione improvvisa dell'eroe col poncho sul suo cavallo bianco, mentre una donna tolto il "maccatùro" che tiene ripiegato sulla testa pendente sulle spalle a mò di coda di cavallo, lo lancia in alto al grido di "viva Gallibardo". ZAFARANA il PRODOTTO TIPICO Il Peperone Rosso Dolce la “Zafarana”, è il prodotto tipico per eccellenza, usato in molte delle preparazioni gastronomiche tortoresi. Zafarana è il nome che i tortoresi danno ai peperoni dolci fatti passare per un filo (nzérta) ed essiccati al sole, in onore del quale, da qualche anno si celebra “Zafarana Fest” - programma completo http://www.myspace.com/zafaranafest/blog -. I piatti tipici rigorosamente a base di “Zafarana”, sono pietanze di un tempo, in cui la Zafarana , sia intera che in polvere, era usata quotidianamente per la preparazione di ricette deliziose: pasta e fagioli e "zafarana pisata" in cui il peperone dolce viene usato tritato, fritto "pongia" melanzane peperone dolce origano e pomodori, con le Patate “patate e zafarana”, “zafarani riddi” secchi fatti gonfiare nell’olio bollente. E poi i dolci, con la crostata di marmellata di “zafarani”. PIATTI TIPICI Fusìddi (fusilli fatti in casa arrotolando la sfoglia con dei ferretti, conditi con ragù ottenuto con una lunga cottura di carne di capra) Dolci Tipici Rispèddi (impasto di farina a lenta lievitazione poi fritto e ripieno di alici) Pucciddéatu (dolce tipico di Pasqua di forme rituali, a base di farina a lenta lievitazione, zucchero, sugna e uova) Cannarìculi (dolci di gnocchetti di pasta fritta e ammielati) COME SI ARRIVA A TORTORA Strade Le principali arterie per il comune di Tortora sono: L'Autostrada A3 uscita di Lauria a 15 km Strada statale 18 Tirrena Inferiore (vecchio e nuovo tracciato) che collega Tortora a nord con la Basilicata ed a sud con la costa tirrenica della Calabria, dal quale si stacca la via Blanda. Ferrovie Lo scalo ferroviario di Tortora è lo scalo delle (Ferrovie dello Stato) Praja-Ajeta-Tortora ubicato in Praja a Mare a 2 km dal Lido di Tortora e a 8,3 km (16 minuti) dal centro storico di Tortora. Questo è stato il mezzo scelto da me per raggiungere Tortora da Roma con un viaggio che, con partenza alle 23.03 dalla stazione Tiburtina, mi ha portato a Sapri con un Intercity notturno a Sapri € 12 più € 1,80 per il regionale fino alla stazione di Praja. Il ritorno mi è costato solo € 36,50 (per un totale di € 50.3). Un'unica avvertenza, lo sportello della biglietteria della stazione di Praja lo troverete chiuso, nonostante ci sia un foglio di carta con su scritti degli improbabili orari di apertura, pertanto, sarete autorizzati a fare il biglietto sul treno senza sovrattassa; basterà che facciate presente al controllore la stazione di partenza e, assieme al vostro biglietto, riceverete un sorriso e un'alzata di sopracciglia che dice tutto.
