A popular town in the Middle Ages, the 1st settlement of the Templars in Scotland
Torphichen is a town from ancient times, as there are historical references that refer to it as a vilage of the Celts. The founding of the town is set in 400 AD . But this place became popular in the Middle Ages as one of the 1st settlements of Templars in Scotland, where they founded the Priory which would later be taken by the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem. The president of the order is Queen Elizabeth of England and The Knights of St. John They shared features with the Templars as both were clerics, warriors, but for historical reasons the 1st was more popular in Scotland. A clarification that confuses the visitor.
The famous Rosslyn Chapel was never Templar or is in the Normandy-Scottish ... inventions of the Da Vinci Code movie. The town is small, but its priory church cemetery not wasted, because with a little patience and understanding, we find medieval symbols of the order by all sites, so they are the center of the village. This is located about 20 minutes from Edinburgh and Stirling, and worth going to spend the morning or / and evening and get in touch with the story ... personally, on my last visit, I had the pleasure to converse with one of the last Knights of the Order of St. John.
