San Giovanni on the Lake
The beautiful town of Torno is perched on the deep blue waters of Lake Como, leaving behind the snow-capped Mount Boletto. As we approached the shoreline in a small boat, I was fascinated by the sunlight striking the village and golden roofs. The heyday of ancient Lathe was between the 13th and 16th centuries thanks to a flourishing textile industry. Ancestors left their mark, in this case a negative one, almost completely destroying the city in 1552, however, fortunately, part of the medieval fortifications remained intact and can still be viewed today. The most remarkable building in Lathe is the church of San Giovanni with its Romanesque tower, giving it character and uniqueness not only for the religious, but the entire surrounding population.
