Torcello Island

Isola selvaggia, meno nota rispetto a Murano e Burano, ha un fascino particolare che conquista subito il visitatore alla ricerca di un po' di tranquillità. Per arrivarci, c'è il vaporetto da Burano che in tre minuti arriva all'isola. Seguendo le Fondamenta Borgognoni, che costeggiano il canale, in pochi minuti si arriva al cuore dell'isola: intorno alla piazza ci sono le antiche case del clero e un paio di negozi di antiquariato, ovvero tutto quello che rimane dell'antica Torcello. L'isola infatti fu una importante metropoli bizantina di 20 mila abitanti, come testimoniano i mosaici conservati nella cattedrale Santa Maria Assunta. Ma la rivalità con Venezia e una serie di epidemie ridusse l'isola in rovina. Oggi rimane una meta adatta al riposo e alla meditazione, ma anche solo ad una piacevolissima gita di un giorno (volendo però ci sono un paio di locande dove fermarsi a dormire), fra edifici e monumenti sparsi e immersi nella vegetazione. Hemingway la scelse nel 1948 come sua dimora dove per un mese si ritirò a scrivere e andare a caccia.

Wild island, less known than Murano and Burano, has a special charm that conquers the visitor just looking for a bit 'of peace. Il paradiso del silenzio. Questa isolotta è attualmente abitata da 18 persone... Un vero "deserto". La bellezza di questa isola che la rende unica e diversa credo sia proprio il fatto che ci siano poche persone.. Quasi tutti turisti. Circondati dalla natura vi consiglio di farvi una passeggiata fino alla fine (non è molto lunga, in 15 minuti l'hai percorsa). Alla "fine" dell'isola ci sono 4-5 negozi, una chiesa e un piccolo museo a pagamento (non molto importante). Lungo la passeggiata ci saranno 5-6 bar/risotanti. Se avete problemi con il sole, vi consiglio in giornate troppo calde (come ieri 35g) di starvene seduti.. Non importante da visitare,ma se lo farete non rimmarete delusi.. A paradise of silence. This isolotta is currently inhabited by 18 people ... A true "wilderness." The beauty of this island that makes it unique and different I think it's just the fact that there are few people .. Almost all tourists. hicimos un recorrido por algunas de las islas de Venecia y, aunque Torcello no es tan conocida ni visitada como las otras, nos sorprendió gratamente, además de disfrutar mucho del paseo en solitario por ir allí a primera hora de la mañana. En su iglesia hay unos mosaicos espectaculares.

we toured some of the islands of Venice and Torcello although not as well known or visited like the others, we were pleasantly surprised, in addition to really enjoy the ride solo to go all first thing in the morning. In his church there are spectacular mosaics.
