Curious Cliffs in Sao Miguel
A mere 10 km west of Ribeira Grande, in the north of Sao Miguel, there's a curious formation just before entering Capelas. We spotted on the coastline a cliff called "Tomba do Elefante". At the back of the Port of Capelas there are cliffs the shape of an elephant with its trunk falling into the sea, forming a natural tunnel in the rock. The road runs close to the coast and cliffs so it's easy to spot this distinctive rock that seems to challenge the sea to see who is the strongest.
