Three Sisters
The Glen Coe is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited. Seeing how the rich and varied landscape changes from the lowlands of Scotland to the Highlands is a real adventure. And if you are lucky enough to have a guide who is happy to tell you the story of the ancient inhabitants of the area, all the better. If we say that the name of Glen Coe comes from a slaughter which occurred in 1600, you can imagine what life was like in the valley. The lowlands are protected by a mountain and a stream of air which causes the temperature to drop and the Glen Coe is completely at the mercy of the elements.
In midsummer it is quite cold and has a slight breeze like an icy knife. Only some vegetation grows so it is not an area where you can grow food as fodder for animals. Its former inhabitants were nomads living in clans and the lack of food led to bloody battles on many occasions. The Three Sisters are part of a clan called Bian nam Bian (how I like Gaelic) and each has its own name: Gearr Aonach (short Crest), Aonach Dubh (Black Crest) and Beinn Fhada (Long Hill). It is an ideal place for hiking and enjoying the wonderful scenery. I recommend that you visit.
