Statue of Thomas Starr King
With his hand outstretched, this sculpture represents Thomas Starr King, minister of San Francisco in the mid-nineteenth century. Considered a courageous defender of the Union during the Civil War and an advocate for the right to a fair trial, Thomas Starr King was nicknamed "the Apostle of Freedom." The statue has a prominent position in the park, near the Civil War memorial.
