Theotokos Cathedral (Sveta Bogoroditsa)

The church was constructed in the year 1844 by the master of Bratsigovo with donations from patriotic citizens of Plovdiv. In the year 1859, the church mass was held in Bulgaria for the 1st time, and marked the beginning of the movement of the Bulgarian Church. The iconostasis of the church was made with wood carving, constructed in an Empire style and there can be seen some painted icons of the nineteenth century, made by artists of national renaissance. It has a blue and pink bell tower which was added in the year 1880 with Russian help, after liberation. On the walls one can see Bulgarian Orthodox saints and leaders of the liberation movement.
