The Quattro Fontane (the Four Fountains)

9 reviews of The Quattro Fontane (the Four Fountains)

Can go unnoticed

This small square can often go unnoticed by tourists following the main sightseeing routes in Rome. But, in my opinion, it's one of the most enchanting places in the city. It was built in the 16th century as the intersection of two recently-built streets. Its originality lies in the fountains added in each corner of the square. The fountains are all adorned with statues representing the Nile, the Tiber, the Juno, and the Diana rivers.

The fountains and sculptures are indeed wonderful, but what really makes this square special is that it's somewhat hidden. Even Romans pass by without taking a second glance as if jaded by the beauty of it all.
