Theatre of Bitola
At the end of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, Bitola was not only an economic and military center, but also an important cultural center. It was the city of pianos and consuls, the most cosmopolitan of Macedonia. The Roman ruins near Heraclea had a theater since ancient times. At that time it was considered normal to have such an important theater in the city. It was built in the city center, where there was first a Muslim cemetery. Construction lasted from 1897 to 1905. At this time, they had four theater groups in the city. They made short plays, circus programs and direct theater.
