The Weaver

The weaver's sculpture is located in the new, central square of the mountain village Gouveia. This village is one of the several entrances to Serra da Estrela Natural Park. The sculpture was inaugurated in the summer of 2005 in honour of a former director of a well-known textile company. Let´s remember that this town lived mainly off its popular sheep cheeses, wool and therefore the textile industry. The sculpture of a young man spinning wool is made of white granite on a grey granite pedestal.
