The Vucciria District

La Vucciria es un barrio de Palermo, donde se encuentra uno de los mercados más famosos de Sicilia, en el que puedes encontrar frutas, verduras, pescados, carnes y productos regionales como las famosas anchoas saladas. Este barrio fue lugar de asentamiento de artesanos y comerciantes desde el siglo XII. El barrio está formado por un conjunto de angostas callejuelas en los alrededores de la Piazza San Domenico, cerca de el puerto de [poi=724121]La Cala[/poi]. Su nombre proviene del francés "boucherie", que significa carnicería. Como en todos los mercados, la mayor actividad se desarrolla por las mañanas. Había puestos que hacían la comida en la misma calle, formando una humareda y un olor a fritanga que se extendía por las calles adyacentes... Parece que ése es precisamente el "encanto" del barrio, aunque a mi no me gustó demasiado, dejándome cierta impresión de suciedad.
