The Villa of Mysteries is one of the suburban buildings of Pompeii, located about two hundred meters away from the Herculaneum Gate, outside the city walls. It was built in the first half of the 2nd Century, and was remodeled and enlarged many times. While almost all the walls are decorated with paintings, there are also a large number of frescoes depicting supposed wives being initiated into a Dionysian cult.
