The Villa de Vélez

Ruta 3. LA VILLA DE VÉLEZ (I Ruta Fotográfica "Objetivo Axarquía") Dejamos atrás la Iglesia de la Encarnación y nos adentramos en el núcleo embrionario de la ciudad medieval en el famoso barrio de “La Villa”. La arquitectura es de origen árabe con un trazado urbanístico de calles estrechas y retorcidas. Este barrio se abría a la ciudad por cuatro puertas, de las que en la actualidad se conservan solo una: La “Puerta Real”. Se trata de una torre rectangular de mampostería y ladrillo; de ella salían los tramos de la muralla medieval que rodeaba la localidad. Con el paso del tiempo la construcción de viviendas ha cubierto el recinto amurallado, quedando sólo algunos tramos que se han ido recuperando con los derrumbes de algunos edificios.
