Fountain with allegorical sculptures

In front of the city hall in the town square you'll find one of the most symbolic monuments of Ljubljana, the fountain with allegorical sculptures of the three rivers of Carniola: the Sava River (the most important of the old Yugoslavia, it starts in Slovenia at the Bled Lake and ends in Belgrade, on the Danube), the Krka and the Ljubljanica. It was built in 1751 by the most important sculptor of Ljubljana during the eighteenth century, Francesco Robba.

La fontana si trova proprio di fronte al palazzo del Municipio ed è costituita da una grande vasca a forma di trifoglio sormontata da un obelisco e varie personificazioni simboliche. La pietra con cui venne realizzata era considerata di primissima qualità e invidiata anche a Vienna. Ciò nonostante, nel XVIII secolo, i lubianesi commissionarono a Francesco Robba una scultura più grande, finemente realizzata in marmo di Carrara.
