Temple that stayed in my memory as the most beautiful and special one
I was finishing my visit to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, in southwestern Sicily. Each time it was warmer, and thought that I had little to see ... Once past the Temple of Zeus, after crossing a road, a dirt road took me through olive trees and Mediterranean vegetation to the last temple, Castor and Pollux. I was surprised because the trees covered a collection of stones which was the Greek city of Agrigento, but both seemed to have entered a symbiosis, and I´m not sure what lied there in the past. A scene that was interesting. Then I came to a clear area, and there were the 4 columns of this temple.
Columns that have become the symbol of the Agrigento, which reaches the horizon behind the temple. They are not there alone. All around are other ruins, very interesting. I read that they are shrines of the goddesses Demeter (Greek goddess of agriculture) and Persephone. I do not know, but I was struck by large circular constructions, like wheels and mills made by giants. The columns of Castor and Pollux where I found a beautiful orphan, strong and fragile at the same time, and this corner as a whole stayed in my memory as the most simple, but most beautiful and special in the Valley of the Temples.
