The Stonewall Inn is the most famous bar in the history of Gay Rights movement in the United States. On 27 June 1969, the police burst into the Stonewall Inn, one of the most popular gay clubs at the time. The operation became a brawl between the crowd and the police, and the resulting Stonewall riots lasted several days. These events gave rise to the first gay liberation movement, and today, gay pride celebrations normally take place in June to commemorate this historical fact.
