A Slovakian gentleman
Near the main square, next to one of the most popular cafes in the city (Cafe Mayer), we find the statue of Schoner Naci. Its name in German means "the beautiful Ignacio", giving us a clue about the character it celebrates. The son of a shoemaker and grandson of a famous clown, Ignaz Lamar was a former "prespurak" (inhabitants of Prespurk, the former name of Bratislava). Though poor and mentally ill, he never neglected his appearance and was always dressed impeccably in tuxedo, top hat, and white gloves, with a cane in his hands. His manners were exquisite, and it is said that he always greeted young women with a kiss on the hand.
