The Schillerstein, also known for the name myth stone, is a 30 m high, distinctive boulder, which sticks out of the water at the entrance to the Lake of Uri, which is the most southern bay of the Lake Lucerne. It is located opposite Brunnen, between the Treib and the Rütli and can only be accessed by the waterway.

In 1838, it was shortened for one third, because falling rocks endangered the passing steamships. In 1859, the founder cantons decided to transform the obelisk-shaped rock into a monument for Friedrich Schiller, the author of the drama "Wilhelm Tell", in honour of his 100th birthday.
