Views from the Mountains
Larrun (in Basque) is visible from different parts of the Basque Country. Its silhouette is unmistakable, from which extends out a huge antenna. It is a very pointy Mountain, at 905 meters high it has incredible views. Between Navarre and Lapurdi (in the Basque Country), it is without a doubt one of the most visited places by tourists in the Basque Country. Romantics should travel in one of the 3 trains in France, which go above 700 meters in 35 mins, travelling at only 8 km/h: Www.Rhune.Com A nice day out for kids, which is thrilling as you can see vultures flying overhead and watch the flocks of sheep and grazing pottokas.
For those with a bit more energy, the ascent/descent can be done on foot, but keep in mind that the slope is very steep. Some lovely places to visit are: Sara, Zugaramurdi, Etxalar, Urdax caves, the castle d 'Abbadia (Hendaye), Hondarribia, Lesaka, Ziburu, St Jean de Luz ... As they say, with good binoculars, and a south wind, it is possible to spot the Pic du Midi de Bigorre which is 150 km away.
