A wedding gift
Queen Charlotte's Cottage was a wedding gift to the Queen when she marry George III of England in 1761. It was at first a simple 1-story villa in the grounds of Richmond, later enlarged, because in the middle of nature the queen felt comfortable. It had 20 hectares of forest known as the domain of the queen, which are now part of the Royal Gardens, Kew. There was always plenty of flowers in spring and blue bells, hundreds of thousands, that the queen was very fond of. This land was a place of rest and retreat outside the royal court with dozens of exotic trees from Asia and the English colonies.
