A famous sculpture
This sculpture is very famous in France, because there is a song, rather like Frere Jacques, that all French children know. The song, Petit Quinquin, was composed by Alexandre Desrousseau in 1853, and it's a lullaby sung from the point of view of a mother trying to get her child to sleep. The mother is a poor factory worker from the neighbourhood of Saint Sauveur so, with a very simple song, Desrousseau speaks of all the pain, but also the determination and love of these strong women.
